Mi Ami

My review of Mi Ami’s debut full-length, Watersports ran today in the Boston Phoenix.

Two-thirds of Mi Ami (Daniel Martin-McCormick and Jacob Long) are from the now-defunct D.C. band Black Eyes, and while they retain some of that band’s intensity, the music on Watersports is much more rhythm-oriented. It’s not dance-punk, per se; while it bears some superficial similarity to bands like !!!, it’s a little darker, a little more insistent and unsettling. I’ve got a long feature on Mi Ami awaiting publication in the spring 2009 issue of ALARM Magazine.

“He believes that fairness is defined by market outcomes. To the extent that unfairness exists, it is solely the doing of government: clean energy, laws permitting union dues, overpaid government employees, and so on.” Romney’s perverse ‘fairness.’
