Playing To Win On HDTV at Forbes.com

NES Controller

My latest article for Forbes.com, Playing To Win On HDTV, was published today.

In it, I tackle the question of whether or not it’s worth it to invest in an HDTV that features game mode, and the answer is a resounding… maybe. Gaming lag is definitely a problem on some HDTVs, but with the right setup, the average video game player probably won’t notice a significant problem.

So I give game modes a mild recommendation for hardcore gaming enthusiasts; it’s probably a nice thing to have, but isn’t extremely essential for all people. That said, I think you’ll be hard pressed to find an HDTV without a game mode these days. Just don’t pay extra for it.

Update: Still big in Canada. The Globe and Mail has picked up this article, as has Canoe.ca.
