Brown Submarine | Boston Spaceships | Michael Patrick Brady

Brown Submarine | Boston Spaceships

My review of Robert Pollard’s most recent side-project, Boston Spaceships, and their album Brown Submarine can be found in ALARM Magazine #33.

While I was a huge fan of Pollard’s last solo disc, Boston Spaceships didn’t grab me in the same way. It’s a good album, just not as exciting. Opener “Winston’s Atomic Bird” is certainly a highlight, but I can’t say any of the tracks held my attention (or cropped up in my head for weeks) like the ones on Robert Pollard is Off to Business. More songs for the endless catalog.

I love this style: Carlton Banks, Kanye West, and the rise of the NBA nerd.

The Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George have an awkward night out with Elaine’s writer father is based on a real-life event where Larry David was forced to entertain his girlfriend’s father—Richard Yates.

I agree with this Globe editorial: veto casino gambling in Massachusetts.
