King of Jeans

My review of King of Jeans, the latest Pissed Jeans record, ran today in the Boston Phoenix.

I’ve been listening to Mclusky Do Dallas a lot lately, lamenting that those guys decided to break up. It’s a great record, in fact, the first record I ever reviewed, and I love it so much because it’s filthy, aggressive, and loaded with a really wry, knowing sense of humor. Anyway, King of Jeans feels like it’s cut from the same cloth. Loud, obnoxious and incredibly funny in a weird way. It’s an excellent rock record, powerful and exciting.

I love this style: Carlton Banks, Kanye West, and the rise of the NBA nerd.

Ta-Nehisi Coates offers a powerful response to that grotesque Forbes column that’s making the rounds.

The Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George have an awkward night out with Elaine’s writer father is based on a real-life event where Larry David was forced to entertain his girlfriend’s father—Richard Yates.

I agree with this Globe editorial: veto casino gambling in Massachusetts.
