Dorm Room HDTVs

My article on HDTVs that would be suitable for dorm rooms or college suites ran tonight at Forbes.com.

If you’re a college student heading back to school after a summer of enjoying your parents’ big-screen, high-definition television, this is a good guide to figuring out how to find an affordable HDTV that will fit in your academic-year living space.

Cost is obviously a factor. Don’t waste money on bells-and-whistles like 1080p (unless you’re really saving money by going the DLP route). For an LCD or Plasma under 50-inches, 1080p is overkill and will cost you more than it is worth. I do include one exception, a Sharp TV that’s 1080p at 32-inches; some people really want that high-resolution, and that model TV is meant for gamers. If you’re really dying for a big screen at a low price, the aformentioned DLP technology is the best bang for the buck, though it has its drawbacks.

Check out the article. There’s lots of good information.

The Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George have an awkward night out with Elaine’s writer father is based on a real-life event where Larry David was forced to entertain his girlfriend’s father—Richard Yates.
