Elephant Jokes | Robert Pollard

ej

My review of Robert Pollard’s Elephant Jokes ran today in the Boston Phoenix.

In reviewing this album, I was surprised to find that it’s Pollard’s fifth release this year. The man is a machine, and even a fan like myself finds it hard to keep up with his release schedule. Elephant Jokes isn’t as solid or well-crafted as last year’s Robert Pollard is Off to Business; it’s longer, with shorter songs and more half-baked ideas. Nevertheless, there’s some great tracks here and of course, Pollard’s familiar, welcoming vocals and melodies.
